Christmas 2000 – ready, set, deliver!
With this Christmas destined to lure more internet shoppers than ever before, etailers are working overtime to ensure they don’t mirror the well-documented delivery disasters of 1999.
“Etailers don’t want to relive the embarrassing admission of not being able to fulfill all orders,” claims Maurice Sinclair, Director of Logistics Bureau.
“If last year was the dress rehearsal, this Christmas will be the opening night. It will be the clincher for a number of etailers who failed to deliver and wound up disappointing their customers last year.”
Sinclair says that this year, etailers are being ‘proactive’, instead of ‘reactive’. Some etailers are adopting innovative fulfilment schemes such as arranging collection from outlets such as petrol service stations, instead of door-to-door delivery.
Alternatively, they are utilising the services of specialist logistics companies with expertise in fulfilment, procurement, transport, storage and inventory management to ensure delivery on time and under budget.
